A little introduction about The Doghouse from Lauren (the owner)
I opened up the doghouse 4 years ago in 2012. Prior to that I worked in Post production TV editing for 3 years however when I was 18 years old I was diagnosed with arthritis and reached the stage where I was on crutches and even confined to a wheelchair at one stage. Two operations and a lot of infusions and drug trials along the way I decided that the commute and job wasn’t for me and decided to go for my dream of working with animals.
The doghouse is a small & friendly boutique and fully equipped pet grooming salon with emphasis on home comfort for animals at affordable prices.
We have a staff of 8 including myself and are open every day of the week.
I hold the following certificates:
Dog grooming level 3 – hadlow
Dog grooming – jd campus
Feline behaviour and psycology diploma from the international alliance of holistic therapists
Canine behaviour diploma from the international alliance of holistic therapists
Canine Nutrition diploma from the international alliance of holistic therapists
Microchipping certificate from micro ID
First aid certificate from PIF
Pet handling and welfare certificate of achievement from PIF
At the doghouse we believe strongly in continued personal development so attend as many local workshops as possible. Most recently Eve Summers workshop last month and we are due to undertake worshops with julie harris in gundogs, canine massage and asian fusion shortly.
I think its important we give our customers as many options as possible which is why we also offer in our salon our spa range which includes facial scrubs, mineral mud baths, deep sea salt baths, pawdicures, colour stencils, full dying, feathers and extensions and the ever famous Furjazzle !
One of our customers Brett has also decided to follow his dream of working with animals and has developed a successful Dog walking and boarding company and he now manages our pet Taxi service, bringing our less mobile customers to the shops or taking them to vet appointments.
Every dog who comes to us is treated like a member of the family , literally in a case of a recent rescue from Romania who came to us. Little betty had a very horrible start to life and when the rescue called up asking could I groom her I didn’t think I would be bringing her home with me but it seems fate brought us together and I am hoping to train her to become a PAT dog who are our registered charity.
My previous pets ; rosie, louie, poppy, tess and of course the fish rosie and jim are remembered in everybit of the shop in a special way but none more so than the mischievious little westie Charlie who we sadly lost in 2014. Without him i honestly do not think The Doghouse would have ever become more than an idea and i am forever thankful and blessed to have had such amazing animals surround my life. I am now lucky enough to share my life with tommy and jerry the cats and betty the border cross.
The fantastic work that my amazing team do is the reason this business has gone from strength to strength and I am very thankful to have so much support from them and my family.
